As the song says “A Rainy Night in Georgia”, that was the best way to describe Sunday night January 22 as Don Henley played the Fox Theater in downtown Atlanta, GA.  The legendary Don Henley came through Atlanta on his 2017 tour.  He is playing music from his 40+ year career, including time with the Eagles, his solo career, and his latest country album “Cass County”.

Don Henley was the second part of a double header day of entertainment as about a half mile down the road the Atlanta Falcons had won the NFC Championship.  Henley is a living legend that co-founded a band in the 1970’s that became that generations “Beatles”.  The Eagles have many hit songs that fan know by heart to this day.  After the Eagles broke up, Henley became one of the biggest selling pop artist of the 1980’s.  A man that could rest on his laurels decided to take another road and record a chart topping country album.

Henley and his large band, including a nice horn section, opened the over two hour show with a beautifully harmonized version of the Eagles “Seven Bridges Road”.  Henley had a nice variety of Eagles songs, including “Witchy Woman”, “One of These Nights”, and “The Last Resort”.  Solo hits included songs such as “Dirty Laundry”, “New York Minute”, “The End of the Innocence”, and “The Boys of Summer”.  The band also played a few cover songs including the aforementioned “Rainy Night in Georgia”.

After Henley and his band left the stage the full house called them back out for an Eagles encore featuring “Life in the Fast Lane” and “Hotel California”.  The latter of which was phone photographed from every angle.  Henley had previously asked the crowd to put away their phone until he got to “that hotel song.”  Henley tried to get away but was called back to the stage for one last encore featuring “Wasted Time” and “Desperado”.

Don Henley put on an amazing show with a very talented band backing him up.  It was also nice to hear the story behind some of his greatest hits and where the songs came from.  Henley is definitely a living legend and an amazing talent.  It would be a sin to not attend his show when he comes to town.

Don Henley’s band consisted of:

Will Hollis – Keys & Vocals

Steuart Smith – Guitar & Vocals

Scott Crago – Drums & Percussion

Michael Thompson – Keys & Vocals

Lance Morrison – Bass & Vocals
