Reports are circulating that part of the backbone of those great Dio hits and Rainbow hits, Jimmy Bain, has passed away at the age of 68. Bain played bass for Ronnie James Dio’s band after Dio left Black Sabbath in 1983 to start his own band. Along with his bass playing duties Bain also participated in songwriting on some of the most icon Dio songs that are still popular today.
Bain’s latest project was as a member of Last In Line, which includes former Dio members Vivian Campbell and Vinny Appice along with singer Andrew Freeman. The group was performing as part pf the Def Leppard Hysteria on the High Seas Cruise. Last In Line’s debut album, Heavy Crown, will be released on February 19.
Bain was born in Scotland on December 19, 1947. He joined Rainbow in 1976 and recorded on their second album “Rising” before making his was to join Dio. In between the bands Bain played and wrote songs with Phil Lynott of Thin Lizzy for Lynott’s two solo albums.
R.I.P. Jimmy Bain, you will be missed.
