Review by Stratman
This is an interesting CD. I had never heard of Michael Ray, but the kid is very talented. He has a very enjoyable voice, similar to Gary Allen (I like his voice also), and presents it well on this album. He has a very good writing style, probably developed from opening up for such stars as Rodney Akins and Jeff Bates among others.
My favorite cuts on the album are “I Am Who I Am” which is a definite rocker and “If I’d Known Then” which could be a great song for radio. “23rd Psalm” is a touching country ballad and you feel the message Michael is delivering.
“Radio Love Song” has a good beat and is very danceable. “Things I Ain’t Proud Of” is a well written song with good music and I like it.”Too Country” is a toe tapper and makes you wanna “git down with yo’ bad self”! Another song that I would enjoy hearing on the radio is “Why Did You Say Yes”. It is an all too common occurrence in today’s world and Michael makes you feel his pain in this one. The rest of the album is full of good songs. I really couldn’t find one I didn’t like.
I would have to say that I was pleasantly surprised with this album and feel that Michael Ray has a bright future in Country music. He has the complete package; good looks, great voice, good writing skills and one heck of a good album here. So you need to get out there and buy you one……. you won’t be sorry!
